The player's objective is to defend their home from hordes of invading zombies by strategically placing various types of plants on a lawn. The player starts with a limited amount of "sun" - the in-game currency - which is used to purchase and plant different plants. There are also zombies with special abilities like the Football Zombie, which charges through plants with great force, and the Zombie Bobsled Team, which moves quickly and can crush plants in its path.Players protect their suburban home from waves of zombies by strategically placing a variety of plants on a grid that spans the lawn. Each plant offers unique defensive abilities, such as shooting peas, exploding on contact, or blocking zombie progress. The game challenges players to adapt their strategies based on the distinct behaviors and vulnerabilities of different zombie types. For instance, a Balloon Zombie can bypass ground defenses unless taken down by a Cactus, and a Dancing Zombie can summon Backup Dancers to increase its threat.This game is a one-side tower defense kind of game with your house and garden on one side and the zombies trying to get in. The zombies are also going to find ways to get around your defenses which is why you need to be ready to excavate plots and move plants around, so flex your repent thumbs.The aim is to defend your house against an invasion of crazy zombies by growing plants in your garden. As you progress, the zombies get tougher and tougher, but so will your plants! Slay the waves of zombies before they reach your front door! Gameplay involves selecting a limited set of plant types via seed packets at the start of each level. Plants require "sun" as currency for placement, which can be gathered from sun icons that appear randomly over the lawn or generated by specific plants like Sunflowers and Sun-shrooms. The rate at which players can deploy these plants is governed by recharge times, adding an additional layer of strategy.Players are equipped with a shovel to remove plants if necessary, allowing for tactical adjustments during play. Additionally, each lane is equipped with a single-use lawnmower (or similar device for pool and roof levels) that serves as a last line of defense. If a zombie reaches the end of a lane and triggers this device, it destroys all zombies in that lane. However, if another zombie makes it to the end of the lane afterward, the player must restart the level.To select plants, move your cursor over to them, click the Left Mouse Button, and then move them to an open plot of land. Most plants require sunlight to to be planted which you can collect by moving the mouse over it. The goal of each level is to defeat all the waves of zombies.When the level begins, you'll have a set plot of land to use. You'll start with limited plants but will get more as you complete levels. Sunlight will fall periodically from the sky and certain plants can generate sunlight which you'll need to collect. The plants and your sunlight amount are shown in the top left corner with how much sun they need under their picture. If you have enough, you can plant it but they'll each have a bit of cooldown before you can plant them again.Zombies will approach from the left side of the screen. When they encounter a plant, zombies will eat it until they're defeated or the plant is eaten. If even one zombie makes it to the front of your house, it's game over. As time goes on, zombies will get tougher, wearing armor, wielding weapons, and even having different movement to get around your plants. Different plants can counter different kinds of zombies.
